A Rock Falls police detective has resigned after she allegedly stole more than 17 hundred dollars from the evidence vault at the police department.
43-year old Sergeant Veronica Jaramillo has been charged with official misconduct and theft.
Authorities say that she used the money to pay utility bills.
The Illinois State Police are handling the investigation. Jaramillo had been with the Rock Falls Police Department for the past 11 years.
The money taken came from a case that involved the death of a Rock Falls man. Jaramillio was the lead detective in the investigation.
She is out of jail after posting 10 percent of a $20,000 bond. Jaramillo returns to court on June 6th for a preliminary hearing.
