Grubsteakers Set to Reopen in Rochelle

A local restaurant which was destroyed by the April 2015 tornado will reopen for business next week.

Grubsteakers at Illinois 251 and Route 64, north of Rochelle, will be serving area residents next Wednesday.

Owner Ava Mirtoska told Newstalk 1060 and "The Coyote" that there will be little changes for the business involving the menu.

She said they may add a tornado sandwich.

The tornado struck the business on April 9th, 2015. 12 people were in a crawl space which included workers and customers when the high winds hit the structure. They received only cuts and bruises from the incident.

The new restaurant is a little larger than the original building. It will be just over 4,000 square feet. The former restaurant was 3,600 square feet.

It will also be back further from the intersection.

Mirtoska said they are excited about opening the new restaurant. She has heard from many people around the country that they plan to return and have a meal once she opens again.

The doors will be open at 6 next Wednesday morning at Grubsteakers.

Grubsteakers is located at the corners of Rt. 251 and 64, or call 815-562-3430.
