New president at Kishwaukee College faces some big challenges

The Board of Trustees at Kishwaukee College in Malta expects to approve a contract next Tuesday during a special meeting for Dr. Laurie Borowicz as their new president.

Dr. Borowicz is currently the Vice President of Student Services for Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, Wisconsin. She would become the 5th President at Kish.

Dr. Borowicz will replace Dr. Tom Choice who plans to retire at the end of the month after 15 years at Kishwaukee College. He was president for 9 years.

During this week's program "Let The People Know", Dr. Choice talked about the biggest challenge for the new president at the college. He said the budget and possible layoffs will be the key issues for the college. He said that any reduction in staff will most likely not be done until July of 2016.

The state currently owes Kishwaukee College 5 million dollars.

Dr. Choice said they need to keep the quality of services for students in the classroom despite the lack of state funding.

"Let The People Know" is heard on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 on Newstalk 1060 and rebroadcast Saturday morning at 6 on Newstalk 1060 and Sunday morning at 6 on "The Coyote".
